America needs a real change

John McCain and Sarah Palin's feel-good appeals to patriotism neglect the facts, reject science and undermine the causes of liberty and prosperity for millions of Americans. John McCain's experience in wartime amounts to dropping napalm on civilians in Hanoi, blowing up sailors on an aircraft carrier and spending five years as a POW. These are not the qualities America needs in its commander in chief. The Bush administration is to blame for the economic turmoil playing out on Wall Street and McCain promises more of the same. When Republicans say 'get our economy back on track,' they are talking about more tax cuts for billionaires and offering financial bonuses to CEOs that devastate companies.

More than 820,000 customers in Texas remained without power nine days after Hurricane Ike hit the Gulf Coast, a grim reminder of the Bush administration's failure after Hurricane Katrina. Also, these storms highlight the Republican Party's refusal to accept responsibility for global warming and the terrible imact of climate change. Not caring about people, putting profit first and ignoring scientific facts have become synonymous with the Republican Party. America needs a real change. America needs Democrats in the White House, Congress and in our state capitol offices.
